Choosing Products – Tour of the Shop

I have to admit that I have had so much fun choosing products for the shop in the last six months. As my friend Amy said, “Large scale shopping, no guilt!” 🙂

I have been on a mission while choosing these products – a mission to find unique things that I loved, and felt that you, my friends, would enjoy as well. In writing my business plan, I had to think a lot about not 11060010_1466449366984625_1980727103892611583_oonly what I wanted to have in the shop, but also what I did not want to have. For instance, I am not carrying fine china or silver, unless it is vintage. I am not carrying women’s clothing at this time. There were a lot of decisions to make and hopefully, I have chosen well.

So, how and what did I choose? Mainly, Naomi & Olive is about home décor and gifts. I wanted to unearth lovely finds that would make your home unique, cozy, and welcoming. I wanted to help you decorate on a budget by repurposing items you may already have. To that end, I am carrying two easy to use furniture paints – Junk Gypsy ™ chalk/clay paint, and Miss Mustard Seed’s Milk Paint. It is amazing what a little paint will do to a piece of furniture that is worn out or tired! I am teaching classes in the workshop space at the back of the store. You can take the class once, or as many times as you would like. We will complete different projects at each class, so not only will you learn how to use the paints, but will have a completed project to use right away in your home, such as a decorative wall sign, centerpiece box, or chalkboard. Make it a girls night out and bring your friends!

Because I am a big believer in repurposing, using what you have, and unique décor in the home, there will be a variety of vintage and one of a kind items in the shop. Purchase something that no one else will have to decorate in your home! I also love all things Southern and local, so many of the one of a kind items are the works of local artists and crafters. This gives you the opportunity to support a local or Southern artist who is working in a cottage business.

I love a home that is comfortable and feels welcoming as soon as you walk in the door. Textiles and scents are two ways to get this ambience in your home. So, I chose a variety of candles in unusual and delicious scents and new and vintage textiles to make your tables and furniture inviting and beautiful to the eye. Rangemark Textiles pillows and table linens, dish towels from a variety of companies, and vintage linens that never go out of style are some of your choices.

I am a gift giver and love to give something that is different and just perfect for the recipient. I chose products for the store to reflect this including a curated collection of children’s gifts and bride’s gifts. Honey Bee Tees even designed a little infant daygown just for our shop!

The companies I have chosen to work with provide just what I love in body products – natural ingredients, creamy, but not greasy formulas, and soft scents. You will love the shea butters from 1818 Farms! No preservatives in any of their products. The Evelyn Rose soap line smells wonderful, and is lovely in color, but has no artificial dyes and is safe for people with skin allergies.

There is a lot more to see at Naomi & Olive, so come in to the store. Eat lunch at one of the fantastic cafes on Foster Street and then spend an afternoon hour (or two!) shopping with us. I can’t wait to give you the “tour of the shop” in person!
